Audi has struck an exclusive deal giving it first rights to buy Italian superbike manufacturer Ducati. This is according to CAR magazine. The exclusive deal gives Audi until mid April to finalize the deal. Ducati, which makes around 40,000 motorcycles a year, is on the market since its debt burden is reportedly higher than its revenue.
Ferdinand Piech, chairman of Audi, said in 2008 it was a mistake not to have bought Ducati when it was on the brink of bankruptcy. It appears that 4 years later, he is having another go at it. Stay tuned. This deal, with all the money that Audi could infuse into Ducati, could set the motorcycle industry on it’s head.
