A Plymouth, MI man has been arrested following a traffic accident that killed a Garden City, MI motorcyclist Tuesday evening. Alcohol is suspected to be a factor in the accident that happened at just before 9:30 p.m., according to Westland police, who are continuing an investigation.
The accident occurred at Ann Arbor Trail and Hines Park. Police say the motorcyclist, 56 and his wife, 54 were southbound on Hines Drive. As the motorcycle approached Ann Arbor Trail, police say a sedan driven northbound by a Plymouth man, 79, attempted to make a left turn on to Ann Arbor Trail. The motorcyclist laid his bike down and hit the vehicle.
The motorcycle rider, not wearing a helmet, sustained fatal injuries and was dead at the scene. The passenger, wearing a helmet, was transported via Life Flight helicopter to the University of Michigan Hospital, where she is in critical condition.
The vehicle driver remains jailed (where he should be) as police continue their investigation and prepare a warrant request.
